Annual Peter Legg Memorial Campout 2012 July 31/Aug 01

The 2012 hiking campout will take place on Tuesday, July 31st and Wednesday, August 1st at Illecillewaet Campground in Glacier National Park. No reservations are available or required at this campground.

• Tuesday, July 31st - Wednesday, August 1st
• Illecillewaet Campground, Glacier National Park (66 km/ 50 minutes east of Revelstoke on Hwy #1, right-hand side before Rogers Pass summit. Watch for signs well in advance of turn off.)

Scheduled Activities

• Tuesday, July 31st, 1pm - Great Glacier trail: one-way distance 3 km, elevation gain 300 m. Good views of Mt. Sir Donald and many other peaks.
• Wednesday, August 1st,  9am - Glacier Crest trail (last hiked by the club in 2008): one-way distance 4.8 km, elevation gain 800 m.  A strenuous hike with great views of the Illecillewaet and Asulkan glaciers from the summit.
  • Alternative shorter hikes:
    • 3rd bridge on the Asulkan trail, approximately 2 hours one-way;
    • Marion Lake on the Abbott Ridge trail, one-way distance 2.2km, elevation gain 425 m, 1.5 hours uphill one-way.

Meeting Place for Hikes

Follow the hiker signs at the end of the paved campground entrance road up a short gravel road (closed to vehicles) and onto the old railway right-of-way (pass the ACC's Wheeler Hut set back on your left at the top of the road). Colin will meet you there.
