Hello again everyone. Well the season has gotten off to a good start with the weather person co-operating fairly well on our hiking dates so far. Participation has been great and don't forget to get those "seats" toughened up for the start of bike riding on April 20th. A number of dates have now been settled so please be sure to read the full Trekker and write down all the events that you are interested in. Some of the events are as follows- K.T. Pizza Party- May 28th @6:00 P.M. - This is a Social at K.T.'s Restaurant where you can get to meet other members or renew old friendships.(For new members this is a pay for your own meal event.) Annual Picinic Social-August 10th @4:30 P.M.- Again this is an opportunity to meet others at an Outdoor Picinic at Juniper Bay. Bring your own picinic meal and get to meet other Club members. Annual Fall Meeting -Thursday Sept. 21st @7:00 P.M at the Schubert Center. This is the second of our two annual General Club Meetings with fall Banquet Tickets being available at that time. The Photo contest will be continued again this year, so don't forget to take those cameras along when you are out on Club events and don't forget to look for the dates of the Peter Legge Memorial Hike and the Golf Tournament dates elsewhere in this publication. | SUNDAY HIKES We have had approx. 50 members out on the first 2 Sunday hikes, but there might be a few less after last Sunday's hike to the top of the Adventure Bay Hill! Donna, George and I continue to scout-out upcoming hikes and rambles, to ensure that a new subdivision hasn't sprung up on the trail overnight. (And to think that we used to worry about windfalls!) ANNUAL PETER LEGGE MEMORIAL HIKE This year's hikes will take place on July 31st. and August 1st. at Illecillewaet Campgound in Glacier National Park. (66 kms/50 mins East of Revelstoke on the right-hand side before you get to Rogers Pass summit.) Colin Baxter, (558-3356), will be the hike coordinator. Either he or George Ferguson, (depending on availability), will lead these hikes. Monday, July 31st. 1PM _ Great Glacier trail - One-way distance 4.8 kms, elevation gain 320m, with good views of Mt. Sir Donald and other peaks. Tuesday, August 1st. 9AM - Perley Rock trail. - One-way distance 5.6 kms, elevation gain 900m. Rated as an ambitious hike, with views of many mountains and glaciers. For those wishing to do a shorter hike, go to the 3rd. bridge on the Asulkan trail, (approx 2 hrs. one-way), or hike to Marion Lake, (2.2 kms/1.5 hrs. uphill one-way). Meeting place for both hikes: Follow the hiker signs behind Illecillewaet Campground up a short trail past the ACC's Wheeler Hut to the old railway right-of-way. | ||||
