Well the 2007 hiking/biking season will be off to a start in a few short weeks, so it is time to check over the gear and get ready ( I know you are still having to much fun skiing/snowshoeing but anyway!!!!!!) This season promises to bring the usual same fun events as last year so stay tuned for dates and particulars. Two important dates to remember are THURSDAY MARCH 8/07 @ 7:00 PM for the Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers. The featured Guest Speaker will be Suzie Sims who will give us a view of Canada from Coast to Coast . Also, don't forget the Cycle trip scheduled for Sept. 10 to 14th at Lake Chelan, Washington. We have over 50 people who have confirmed their attendance to date, so don't miss out on the fun. See you at the meeting on the 8th. George Ferguson President | ||||
| SUNDAY HIKES HIKING IN ARIZONA Carlayne and I are staying in Yuma for 2 months, and I am hiking with a group of fellow snowbirds. I thought that you would like to hear about an experience that I had when I first joined the group. I showed-up ready to hike with my usual gear, including my adjustable hiking poles. The leader said, "Sorry, I don't allow them, everyone has to use a single, long pole, which I supply." He then gave me one, which was as tall as me, which I used for the hike. (He also gave poles to other hikers who didn't have their own.) His rationale is that when you are descending slopes which have lots of loose rocks, you need a single, long pole to stabilize yourself. Seems to work! His rule is similar to our Club rule for above-the-ankle hiking boots. (The poles are made from the skeletons of dead Saguaro cactii, and are extremely light and strong.) See you on the trails in March, but bring your own poles! Colin RAMBLERS Thanks to everyone that volunteered to lead a hike or hikes this year. The spring schedule is complete and has some surprises for you as we have come up with a few new hikes this season. Get your gear in order so you will be ready to join us on March 27 with a trek through the Thomas Hayes Ecological Reserve. Just a reminder; above-the-ankle hiking boots are required for all hikes so if you are bringing someone along on a hike please make sure they have correct footwear. See you on the trails. Donna Both Groups Please Note - Above-the-ankle hiking boots are required for all hikes. Leaders may decline to allow anyone without proper footwear to participate in hike. |
