President's Message

Well the year appears to have gotten off to an exciting start with excellent numbers reported for the Rambles, Sunday Hikes and in particular the Thursday Cycling. Many thanks to the leaders so far, and to those that have volunteered on a moments notice to help clear trails and lead the second "Wave" of Cyclists, your help is what makes the Club run so smoothly.

As safety is always something we strive to keep front and center, you may have noticed that the Club has purchased three safety vests for the Cycle group in an effort to make the group more visible . In addition, thanks to Suzie, we have put together two First Aid Kits, one for the hiking groups and one for the Cycle group, which will be with the leader of the group. So from now on if you develop a blister, cut or whatever simply ask the leader and they will likely have something to help you out.

It may seem strange to some that the May long week-end has come and gone and there was no Cycling Camp Week. Well I assure you the Cycle week is fast approaching, and everyone who has indicated they are going is starting to ask questions on the rides. To that end, it is my plan to distribute a sheet outlining the rides, leaders, departure times etc. on the Sunday evening prior to the first ride. Also, yes I am aware that there are about 10 at the Super 8 Motel and some at the Holiday Inn Express and I will deliver the information there as well. So, see you in Corvallis and if by chance I don't catch up to you on Sunday evening, Donna and I will be at the KOA just outside of Corvallis so drop by and get the information there.

Once again THANK YOU to all for making the start of the 2005 season such a success, and don't forget if you have a hike, cycle route or have a great Idea for the 2007 Cycling Week let us know.

RAMBLER TALK

It’s hard to believe that our spring schedule is winding down. Now for those of you that would like to keep in shape over the summer, I discovered a great way to exercise. It is called Nordic Walking. Stussi Sports has the Nordic Walking Poles and can give you tips on how to start. Anyone that Classic skis already has the basics and instead of skis you have boots on your feet and away you go! Why not give it a try using your ordinary hiking poles?? You will get a good workout!

Thanks to all of the club members that scouted, led and came up with new Rambles this spring. Your willingness to help is what keeps the Club out on the trails. Have a great summer and keep in shape so you are ready to join us for those fall hikes.

Donna
SUNDAY HIKES

We have had excellent turn-outs this year, with 63 doing the hike above Lake Okanagan Resort on April 24th. We even had 28 out on the Dewdrop Range hike on May 1st. which I had been warning people about for weeks!

George, Donna, Colette and I are still scouting-out new hikes and rambles, thanks to suggestions from members. And thanks again to all the leaders who make these hikes possible. We do have a couple of new leaders and co-leaders this year which is nice to see.

See you on the trail!
Colin
